Children in Need 2019

The Senior Section of the Orchestra performed at The Meadows Shopping Centre in Camberley on Saturday 16th November between 10.30am and 12.30pm and raised funds in support of this years BBC Children in Need appeal.

A total of £1,250 was collected that morning, £450 more than last year and one of the highest amounts we have raised over the many years we have collected for this Charity.

We are sure the 'Pudsey Ears' were an influencing factor in encouraging those visiting The Meadows to donate, together of course with the usual high standard of performance by all members of our Senior Section who made themselves available that morning. A special thanks must go to Samantha Hadingham, who conducted the Senior Section throughout their performance at The Meadows due to Mark Cardy being unable to attend because of ill health, which had led to him being hospitalised. Thankfully he is now on the mend and is hopeful of being well enough to conduct at our Christmas Concerts.

We also appreciated the support provided by parents in helping collect during the morning and of course our Logistics Team in transporting percussion and chairs to and from Cordwalles School. Well done to everyone involved in the logistical arrangements, the collecting and the performing, which enabled CYWO to again be a significant contributor to the CIN fund-raising effort.

Christmas Concerts 2019

Tickets for the Orchestra’s Christmas Concerts at High Cross Church Camberley

on the nights of Friday 13th and Saturday 14th December are still available to order from Linda McNaughton by email to cywo_tickets@yahoo.co.uk . If you order after the final rehearsal for the current term on 7th December, then tickets can be collected and paid for on the evening you attend the concert.

The Senior and Intermediate Sections will perform on both the Friday night and Saturday night of the concerts. The concerts will start at 7.30pm and conclude by 10.00pm. The concert ticket price is £9 and a free ticket is available for all Junior Section members who attend the concert with their parents. The ticket price includes an interval mince pie and hot/cold drink.

An instruction letter has already been circulated to Orchestra members regarding times for attendance for pre-concert rehearsals and it would be appreciated if arrivals are prompt for these, as time will be limited for the rehearsals.

Christmas Concert Raffles – A message from Valerie Jackson (Raffle Organiser)

The orchestra always draws a raffle during our concerts. The raffle is an important part of CYWO because it raises money to cover the cost of concert arrangements, sheet music, orchestra polo shirts, van hire for the logistics team, the website and photocopying as well as drinks, chair hire, gazebos and banners for the play-outs.

As parents of a CYWO member, we really need your help to make a profitable raffle.

Firstly, we need prizes! We are dreadfully short of donations this year. If you don't have any ideas of what to donate, here are some popular suggestions:

  • luxury biscuits

  • wine

  • chocolates

  • chutneys and jams

  • quality tea, coffee and hot chocolate

  • candles

  • Christmas cakes and pies

  • toys that would appeal to our younger audience

  • any of the gift sets that you find at the supermarkets and shops

I am happy to combine 5-6 small items to make an attractive hamper. Our most popular hamper at the May concerts was made up of bird feeders, nuts and seeds. Please bring your donations to rehearsal as soon as you can.

Secondly, we need to sell as many raffle tickets as we can. On your way upstairs to the concert, please stop by the raffle table in the lobby. While you are buying your tickets, please encourage all the family and friends that you've brought the concerts to buy some as well. If you have been involved in any other music or arts groups, you will appreciate that the CYWO is very good value for money. The raffle is part of that reason.

Thank you,

Valerie

Christmas Coffee Morning - Saturday 14th December 2019

As previously advised, we will be holding a ‘Christmas Coffee Morning’ for parents, grandparents and friends of our Junior Section members at Cordwalles School commencing at 11.15am and finishing at 12.00noon, with coffee and a seasonal mince pie served.

The purpose of the morning is to give parents, grandparents and friends the opportunity to watch our Junior Section members in rehearsal. We are sure they will be interested to see the progress our Junior Section has made during the short time that they have been rehearsing together in the Autumn term.

Rehearsals for Junior Section members on 14th December will start at the normal time of 9.30am.
