January 2019 Newsletter

Updated: Jun 18, 2019

We hope that all CYWO members and their families have had an enjoyable Christmas break and wish you a happy, healthy and successful year in 2019.

When we start rehearsals on Saturday 12th January, we can anticipate a busy period in preparation for our Spring Concerts at Camberley Theatre in May. We are also hopeful that there will be an active summer programme of play-outs, so please make sure that you check Newsletters and the CYWO website regularly, especially whenever you plan other commitments for 2019.

Christmas Concerts 2018

Well done to all those Orchestra members that participated in the concerts, which proved to be very successful. It was so good to see so many parents, family and friends in attendance. The support that they give to the Orchestra is very much appreciated.

Photographs taken at the Christmas Concerts performed at High Cross Church in Camberley can be viewed via the Gallery section of our web site (www.cywo.org/2018).

The next major performances for all 3 sections of the Orchestra will be the concerts at Camberley Theatre on the evenings of Friday 17th May and Saturday 18th May 2019 and it is important that all Orchestra members are available for both concerts to ensure that each section performs to its full potential.

Raffles

Our Christmas concert raffles this years raised a total of £610, one of the largest amounts raised from our Christmas concerts. We appreciate the generosity of our audiences over the two nights and thank all those that donated raffle prizes.

Whilst our May concerts are still some way ahead, we thought now would be a good time to put out a request for the donation of prizes for our May concert raffles. It is entirely likely that many of you will have received Christmas presents that you will never use, or drink(!!), and will therefore welcome the opportunity of putting them to good use in supporting the fund-raising efforts of the Orchestra. Valerie Jackson, who organised our Christmas raffle, has shown she is skilled in the presentation of prizes worthy of the price of a raffle ticket and therefore your unwanted Christmas present could take on a new life that others would be happy to win in a raffle.

If you have an item you would like to donate, please bring it to a Saturday morning rehearsal and we will pass it on to Valerie. Thank you.

Recruitment & Tutor Programme

In our Christmas concert programmes we included a A5 flyer promoting our Tutor Programme and recruitment directly into the Orchestra by those already playing a woodwind or brass musical instrument. Whilst we are sure it has been a busy time for everyone over the Christmas and New Year holiday period, we hope that our request for assistance in recruiting for both the Tutor Programme and the Orchestra has not been forgotten and that our members and their parents will remain alert to any opportunity that may present itself to promote to friends and other young people the benefits of learning an instrument and membership of our Orchestra. Thank you.
