We hope that all CYWO members and their families had an enjoyable Christmas and New Year break although, having now returned to school/college, this may already be a distant memory!
This term we can anticipate a busy period of rehearsals in preparation for our Spring Concerts at Camberley Theatre in May. We are also preparing an active summer programme of play-outs, so please make sure that you check Newsletters and the CYWO web site regularly, especially whenever you plan other commitments for 2020.
Christmas Concerts 2019
Well done to all those Orchestra members that participated in the Christmas Concerts and our Junior Section Christmas Coffee Morning which both proved to be very successful. It was so good to see so many parents, family and friends in attendance at the two events. The support that parents give to our Orchestra is very much appreciated.
Photographs taken at the Christmas Concerts performed at High Cross Church in Camberley and the Coffee Morning at Cordwalles School can be viewed via the 'Home' page of our web site (www.cywo.org) - just click on 'GALLERY' at the top of the page. In the gallery you will also find photographs taken at other performances given by all three sections during 2019.
The next major performances for all three sections of the Orchestra will be the concerts at Camberley Theatre on the evenings of Friday 15th May and Saturday 16th May 2020 and it is important that all Orchestra members are available for both concerts to ensure that each section performs to its full potential.
Tutor Programme 2020
Those that attended our Christmas Concerts at High Cross Church will be aware that we announced that it had been necessary to postpone the 'Open Morning' originally planned for 18 January 2020 because of uncertainty regarding tutor availability following one of our Saturday woodwind tutors ceasing to work for Surrey Arts.
We are pleased to advise that we are now in a position to go ahead with our 'Open Morning' on Saturday 1st February following the appointment of a replacement tutor.
This particular 'Open Morning' is to give those young people who would like to learn a brass or woodwind musical instrument the opportunity to come to the school to try out some instruments under the guidance of our specialist brass and woodwind tutors.
As part of our new Tutor Programme package we will be offering, to those that would like to progress their interest in learning a musical instrument, group lessons for the remainder of the current spring term and the whole of the summer term completely free of charge. The only commitment we will ask of those that participate in the programme is that they join the Junior Section of our Orchestra as soon as their instrument tutor believes they are ready.
Whilst there will be a publicity campaign to promote the Tutor Programme, if you are aware of any young person that would be interested in this opportunity, without a significant initial expense for their parents, please encourage them to come along on 1 February. Alternatively, parents may like to make early contact to confirm an interest and seek further information by emailing email@example.com
We would also appreciate it if our members could speak with their school/college to see if they will publicise our 'Open Morning' in their parent communications during the next 2 weeks. A pdf copy of the 'Open Morning' flyer can be found on the Home Page and Upcoming Events Page of our website (www.cywo.org).
Your support for this latest recruitment initiative would be greatly appreciated.
