January 2022 Newsletter

We hope that our CYWO members and their families have had an enjoyable Christmas break and we wish you all a happy, healthy and successful year in 2022.

When we start back to rehearsals this coming Saturday, 8th January, we can anticipate a busy period of rehearsals in preparation for our Spring Concerts at Camberley Theatre in May. We are also hopeful that we will be able to resume some play-outs during the summer, although much will depend upon developments regarding the spread of Covid infections as we progress into 2022.

Please make sure that you check Newsletters for Orchestra activities whenever you plan other commitments for 2022 and the CYWO web site if it appears that adverse weather may prevent rehearsals taking place.

Having sought an update from Surrey Arts prior to resuming rehearsals for the Spring Term, we are pleased to advise that nothing has changed with regards to our rehearsal timetable for each of our sections. However, as per the notice to members circulated by Surrey Arts on 10 December 2021, can we just remind everyone that it remains mandatory for students (Y7 and above), staff and visitors to wear face coverings at rehearsals (unless exempt). Face coverings can of course be removed when playing a wind instrument.

Car Parking

You will be aware that for the past 3 months we have been trying to recruit new parents for our Logistics Team. Unfortunately, no offers of help have been forthcoming and therefore we are no longer able to provide regular supervision for entry to and exit from the car parking on the school playground. We must therefore ask everyone to take extra care when entering or exiting the school grounds due to there being only the one entry/exit point for vehicles. Thank you.

Logistics Support

We have concerns that the reduction in numbers in our Logistics Team will have implications for the ongoing support that can be provided to our Orchestra Sections, especially once we resume play-outs during the summer months. Over the years, the support that has been provided by parents has been a major contributor to the music experiences of our members and to have to limit activities because of the lack of help would be a major setback for our Orchestra. If anyone wishes to have more information about the level of commitment required as a member of our Logistics Team, before making a decision about joining, there is the option to contact us via our web site or speak with us at one of our Saturday morning rehearsals. Thank you.
