Open Morning for Tutor Programme – 10 November 2018

At the rehearsal on 13 October we have distributed a leaflet and covering letter to each of our members promoting our next 'Open Morning', which is to be held on Saturday 10 November 2018. If an Orchestra member has not been able to attended the 13 October rehearsal, please email brian.hopper@cywo.org.ukand a copy of the letter and leaflet will be emailed.  Alternatively, you can download both documents from the Parent Info section of our website (www.cywo.org). The purpose of this particular 'Open Morning' is to offer an opportunity to young people wishing to learn a brass or woodwind musical instrument to join our next 'Tutor Programme', which will start in January 2019. We are fortunate to have had two new tutors join us on a Saturday morning, one being a brass tutor and the other a woodwind tutor. As a result, spaces are now available on a Saturday morning for teaching. Your assistance in promoting our new 'Tutor Programme' to friends, or using your son or daughters school communications or your own social media contacts, would be very much appreciated. This year we have one of our largest Junior Sections, but many of them will move to our Intermediate Section next September and we need to continually plan ahead for the next intake of members into our Junior Section. Our Tutor Programme is the key to this progression and the continuing well-being of the Orchestra as a viable music facility for young people. Christmas Concerts – Friday 7 December and Saturday 8 December 2018. Later this month we will be distributing an email to parents and our membership advising of the date that tickets for our Christmas Concerts will be available to order via our ticket ordering email address. In advance of this separate notification, we thought we would give parents notice that our Junior Section will this year be performing on the Friday Night Concert (7 December) with our Senior Section, rather than having a separate Christmas Coffee Morning on the morning of Saturday 8 December. Our Intermediate Section will perform with our Senior Section on the Saturday Night of the Concerts (8 December). Special arrangements for ticket purchases will be advised for those parents with children in both the Junior and Intermediate Sections in the separate ticket purchase email. Remaining Rehearsal Dates for Autumn Term 2018 3rd, 10th, 17th & 24th November 1st December Parent Helpers The support and active involvement of parents in the running of CYWO has been an important factor in its success over the years, with it complementing the musical talents of our members and thus providing a centre of excellence for the provision of music in our community.

From time to time it becomes necessary for us to seek replacements for those parents that have been active in Orchestra activities but have now decided to step down from their involvement, primarily due to their son or daughter no longer being a member of the Orchestra.

Two roles are now to be filled and we would kindly ask parents to give some thought to volunteering for these responsibilities within the Orchestra. These are as follows:- Organising of Raffles at Concerts. We are seeking help from a parent, or parents, with regards to the organisation of our raffles at concerts in May and December. The raffles are an important source of fund-raising for our Orchestra, the amount raised last year being in excess of £1,000. This role would suit either an individual parent or perhaps a couple of parents who may wish to share the role. We have volunteers who remain willing to continue to sell raffle tickets on the night of the concerts and therefore the raffle organiser role will involve the acquiring of raffle prizes, either donated or purchased, and the supervision of the raffle sale process each concert night. This will not prevent a parent attending as a member of the audience to watch their son or daughter perform at the concerts.

If you would be interested in learning more about the raffle organiser role and/or would like to volunteer, please speak with Brian Hopper at a rehearsal, or make contact by telephone (01276 472936), email (brian.hopper@cywo.org.uk) or the contact form on our website (www.cywo.org).

Parent Helpers – Uniform Management We are seeking the help of a parent, or parents, to take over the management of our stock of CYWO polo shirts (all sections) and hoodies (Senior Section). The role will entail the parent(s) being available at key dates during a term to oversee and record the distribution of new polo shirts and hoodies to our members and then to supervise the return of polo shirts that have been provided on loan when our members leave the Orchestra or move sections.

More detailed information about this role can be provided by speaking with Brian Hopper at a rehearsal, or make contact by telephone (01276 472936), email (brian.hopper@cywo.org.uk) or the contact form on our website (www.cywo.org).

We look forward to hearing from any parent that would like to take a more active role in the running of the Orchestra.
